We sat down with Wesley to find out more about his role, what brought him here, and why staying calm under pressure comes naturally to him.

About Wesley and his Role as Contracts Manager

What does a typical week look like for you, or is there no such thing?

No two weeks are exactly the same, which is one of the things I enjoy about the role. As a Contracts Manager, I’m responsible for overseeing projects from start to finish, visiting sites, liaising with clients, coordinating teams and subcontractors, and making sure everything is delivered safely, on time, and to the high standards expected from Matthew Wade Decorators.

What were you doing before you joined Matthew Wade Decorators?

Before joining, I worked across construction, project management and facilities management. I gained experience coordinating trades, managing projects end to end, and ensuring high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction. I also spent 15 years as a UK Facilities Manager for a national cinema chain, overseeing building maintenance, contractor performance and day to day operational reliability across multiple sites.

Settling In to His Role

What made you want to join the team here?

The company has a genuine reputation for quality, professionalism, and doing things the right way. The team takes real pride in its work, and that shows in the calibre of projects the company delivers, from high end residential refurbishments to large scale commercial and heritage jobs that demand real craftsmanship. It’s the kind of environment where standards matter. Clients trust the team, and the work speaks for itself. That’s exactly the sort of company I wanted to be part of.

What’s been the highlight of your first few weeks?

The best part so far has been getting to know the team and seeing the standard they work to. Everyone’s been sound, really supportive, and made settling in simple. And getting out to some of the prestige projects we’ve got on the go has been class. When you see the level of detail and finish up close, you realise you’re working with a team that genuinely knows what it’s doing.

How would you describe the team to someone who’s never worked with them?

Professional, hardworking and friendly. Everyone pulls together to get the job done, takes pride in their work, and looks out for one another.

Looking Ahead to His Time at Matthew Wade Decorators

What are you most looking forward to getting stuck into?

Building strong relationships with clients, helping deliver successful projects, and contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.

What does a job well done look like to you?

A happy client, a project delivered to a high standard, and a team that can walk away feeling proud of what they’ve achieved. Good communication and attention to detail are just as important as the finished result.

If a client’s reading this, what should they know about how you’ll look after their project?

I’ll make sure their project is managed professionally from start to finish. I’ll always be approachable, keep them informed throughout the process, and work hard to ensure the finished result meets or exceeds their expectations.

Wesley’s Life Outside of Work

What do you get up to outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m usually spending time with family and friends, keeping active, and getting out and about whenever I can. I’m also a massive Leicester City fan. Long term season ticket holder and still turning up every week, even now we’re battling it out in League One.

Any hidden talents the team should know about?

I’d love to say I’ve got some wild hidden talent, but the truth is a bit more practical. I’m very good at staying calm under pressure. I picked that up working as a Cinema Projectionist after college, where a breakdown in front of 400 people wasn’t exactly uncommon. When the projector went down, I had to fix it fast to make sure their evening wasn’t ruined. Nothing teaches you composure like a crowd waiting for the film to start.

Describe yourself in three words?

Reliable, approachable and driven

Welcome aboard, Wesley. If you’ve got a project coming up and would like to talk it through, get in touch and Wesley or one of the team will be happy to help.
